Born from the love of our heritage and a passion for authentic flavors, Nata brings a taste of Portugal to the bustling streets of the Big Apple. Nata is an homage to Lisboa. The mesmerizing colored tiles, the sound of the sea, the smell of fresh coffee in the morning, and of course, the first bite of a flaky nata. After living in NYC for 4 years, these were all things that our founder Manuel, Lisboa native, felt deep "saudade" for. "Saudade" is considered the most beautiful word in the Portuguese language, describing a feeling of desire, longing, melancholy.
Nata is born from that exact feeling. While Manuel missed the slow Lisboa moments, he felt inspired by the big apple. He spent three months in Portugal developing our recipe and after a year of hard work, Nata's first location opened right where Manuel's New York journey began––in the lively surroundings of Washington Square Park, at 11 Waverly Place.
At Nata, you'll find a flaky pastry with a creamy custard filling, freshly baked in front of your eyes––just like in Lisboa. We've created a grab-and-go experience to turn Lisboa's daily ritual into your perfect pause, suited for a busy New York lifestyle. We've developed unique beverage offerings to complement the Nata experience––think chai cold brew, matcha lemonade, and seasonal specials, providing a new experience each time you visit.
